An unauthorized file sheds light on how Oracle’s company recent staff reductions affect its cloud segment. Acquired by Business Insider, the record enumerates the positions and ages of 546 workers within Oracle’s America Cloud Infrastructure unit who were dismissed, accounting for roughly 7.6% of the 7,185 personnel overall listed.
The layoffs, which began last week, are part of Oracle’s efforts to cut costs amid an expensive AI infrastructure push. The document shows that managers, engineers, software developers, and workers in the company’s data center maintenance and servicing division were most affected.
Cloud Infrastructure Organization
Oracle’s cloud infrastructure organization is a vital part of its business, with quarterly revenues from the division having soared 121% year over year. The document states that the information was provided to comply with federal age discrimination laws.
The layoffs have fallen heavily on software developers, with 57 software developer III workers made redundant. Program manager IV and principal core infrastructure engineer roles were also heavily affected. Software developers make up around 17% of the roles cut, which is not surprising given that AI tools have become increasingly proficient at coding.
Impact on Data Center Support Services
The layoffs have also affected Oracle’s data center support services, which provide maintenance and tech support for the company’s data centers. Forty-one employees from this division were selected for termination, including the vice president and two senior directors.
The company’s investments in AI data centers continue, with Oracle expecting to spend $90-$95 billion this year on building new data centers. The recent layoffs have eliminated 128 roles containing the word “manager” across the cloud infrastructure division, around 23% of the total cuts.
Demographics of Affected Employees
An analysis of the Oracle layoff document shows that the majority of employees affected in the cloud infrastructure division were over 40, and around 16% were 60 or over. This suggests that the company’s cuts have fallen more heavily on older, experienced workers.
As Oracle continues to double down on its investments in AI data centers, the company’s workforce has declined significantly. Oracle previously disclosed that its workforce declined by 21,000 employees, or 13%, in the 2026 fiscal year ended May 31, and the company said it had 141,000 employees before the most recent round of layoffs.
The document obtained by Business Insider provides the clearest picture yet of the impact of the layoffs on the company’s cloud infrastructure division.
